Collaboration GeneralizedThe common, dictionary definition of collaboration generally goes something like, ‘the act of working together with one or more people in order to achieve something.’ The breadth of this definition indicates that anything from a friendship, to a university, a city or nation may qualify. In more specific applications, the definition of collaboration tends to vary depending upon the needs and interests of the specific context within which the definition is being proposed. This lack of agreement on the generalized nature of collaboration provides no common base to communicate, educate and expand on humanity's understandings and applications of collaboration across various fields of application. This indicates a lack of understanding and research in the area, as well as a prime opportunity for the development of a general theory of collaboration.
