From Meta Collab

Collaboration in art is often discussed in relation to literary collaboration, however it is an important part of the creative process in most artistic fields. Concepts frequently explored include ownership, authorship, shared identity and sexuality. Little if no literature exists which focuses on the theoretical exploration of the processes, methods and techniques of artistic collaboration.

The process of artistic collaboration is one of high complexity in its levels of:

  • Communication (explicit, implicit, verbal and non-verbal);
  • Lateral problem solving (i.e. solving a problem for which there is no logical, linear methodology); and its
  • Unexpected outcomes (the product is generally one that none of the individual collaborators could have predicted or achieved alone).

Knowledge gained from studying and researching such collaboration might yield insights into expanding the creative collaborative possibilities in other fields and contexts.
